Equipale Chairs

Lots of great things come from Mexico.

1)  Margaritas

2) Queso

3) Tortillas

4) La Cucaracha

But there are also some great design elements that come out of Mexico as well!

Yes, the Acapulco chair.  These are everything.  Stylish, yet comfy.

They are getting lots of love, even from CB2.  They just came out with this version.

I love Acapulco chairs as much as the next, and have a few of my own, but let’s talk about Equipale chairs.

equipale Ace Hotel 2

I stopped dead in my tracks after seeing those photos. If you have ever been to the Ace in Palm Springs, Portland, NY, or now- LA, you know how badass their design is. It’s been the inspiration for Aquahaus all along.

Those white leather chairs… so boho, rustic, yet chic.

They come in lots of colors…

Here is a photo from Dwell of The Saguaro.

Yes, amazing!

Thinking I will incorporate these into Aquahaus somehow. What do you think?

Happy Wednesday!

Wallpaper and other DIY conquests

I had a very productive weekend. J was out of town, so I interpreted that as carte Blanche to work on home improvement projects.

For instance, our bath was slightly bland.

Clean but bland.

Naturally, I decided wallpapering was the way to go.

So I bought 6 rolls of removable wallpaper from spoonflower. I wanted something graphic, modern, but boho and southwestern.

To prepare, I watched a lot of YouTube videos. They seem to hang lots of wallpaper in England.

Start by laying towels on the floor and filling your tub with water.

Then you roll your paper and submerge in the tub.

Then you “book” like so.

Bonus if you have a cute furry helper.

Then take your time and hang the first sheet straight.

very important.

Lining up the pattern is easier since there is overlap with this paper.

Also, it is very forgiving and you can pull, lift, smooth with your hands.

Going around fixtures sucks. No good tips there.

Keep hanging and lining up the pattern.

I then rehung the mirror and kept going.

Almost 7 hours later, I was sore but happy.

Much better I think.

And I always get a sense of pride and accomplishment when I walk into that bathroom!

And the next day, I painted the bedroom.

Sneak peek:

Presto chango

I bought this sofa at Round Top in Oct.

Good bones. Good lines. Nice wood and brass.

I flirted with lots of fabrics.

But I have always loved blue sofas. Navy blue is a neutral in my book.

So I set off looking for fabric.

Trial run was nice color, wrong texture.

But I found the right one.

And here she is now.

(Sorry, no sunlight in Austin now for good photos)

Yay!! I would like to thank my husband for being so gracious and cool about my impulse purchase.

one last before/ after.

Go forth and conquer! And stay warm Texans.

Chugging along

Does anyone read anymore? I don’t blame you, I’m so inconsistent.

How was your weekend?

Ours was good. Again, we made progress.

The living room is looking more habitable. I love the Round Top sofa, but I will love it more when it gets reupholstered next week.

I also got a new fiddle leaf which I’m sure I’ll kill soon enough, but I’m really going to try not to.

The mid century chairs I got on Craigslist made their triumphant return into the house in the new competition room.

2 steps forward, 1 step back.

I couldn’t leave well enough alone, so in this space in our kitchen, we needed to add some cabinetry.

Custom cabs are $$$. So I got inspired by online tutorials of making ikea cabs look built in.

So we bought tons of cabinets.

We had a very useful furry helper.

We will see how it all turns out.

Lastly, aquahaus is gonna soon be a little less aqua.

Those there are paint swatches.

Don’t worry, there will still be plenty o aqua….
